Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge
Orlando, Florida
On the Bucket List of any golfer visiting the Orlando area
By Steven Skelley & Thomas Routzong
What happens when you combine one of the classiest golfers ever to pick up a club and one of the most prestigious golf courses in the country? Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge is what happens - and it should definitely be on the Bucket List of any golfer visiting the Orlando area.
The Bay Hill golf course was built in 1961 on 270 acres along the Butler Chain of Lakes. In 1965, professional golf legend Arnold Palmer competed in an exhibition match at Bay Hill and "fell in love with Bay Hill and began the quest to make it his own."
In 1970, Bay Hill became the winter home of the Palmer family and in 1979, Mr. Palmer created a tournament that "became an official PGA TOUR stop, attracting some of the strongest fields of the season." Today, it is known as The Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard.
The picture-perfect Bay Hill Club & Lodge features a 70-room property, 27-holes of golf, the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy, four Har-tru and two DecoTurf tennis courts, a full service spa and salon, a fitness center, a heated Jr. Olympic-size pool, three dining locations, three lounges, and 9,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.
"We have 70 hotel rooms and 9 homes that can be rented by guests," Assistant General Manager Michael Moss told us. "I like to say we offer a high quality club and lodge but with an old-time feel. We have a membership so we are actually both a golf resort and a club. We maintain the intimate feel of a small resort but we offer the high quality amenities of a mega resort. We know you here and we take care of you and we are A.D.A compliant."
Even though Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge is known around the world as a golf resort, it has even more to offer guests. "We are more than just an amazing golf resort. We are also a family-friendly resort. With our spa and pool and marina, there is something for everyone in the family," Moss said.
Aquatics - The Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge features a junior Olympic-size swimming pool and Terrace Cafe. Lap swimming and aquatics fitness classes are available.
Fitness Center - The Fitness Center at Bay Hill is equipped with treadmills, elypticalls, nautilus machines and free weights. Certified personal trainers are available to work with guests one-on-one.
Salon - The Salon at Bay Hill offers full and half day packages which may include cut and styling for men and women, perms, color and highlighting, nail and skin care services, manicure, pedicure, aromatherapy scalp massage, facials, body wraps and body massage.
Tennis - Professional tennis instructor Todd Harris has been with Bay Hill for 42 years! "It is a great place to work. Mr. Palmer is fantastic," he told us. The tennis facility features four Har Tru tennis courts, two DecoTurf tennis courts, and a fully-stocked pro shop. Professional instruction and racquet repair services are also available.
Fishing - "Most people do not know that we have a marina. We are able to arrange fishing trips right from our front desk," Assistant General Manager Michael Moss told us.
Dining - The Bay Hill Club & Lodge offers several dining locations and a Member's Lounge. The Grill & Classic Dining Rooms offer breakfast, lunch and dinner in a casually elegant atmosphere. The Bay Window offers appetizers, salads, sandwiches and fresh brick oven pizza overlooking the famed putting green and Rolex clock. The Terrace Cafe offers indoor and outdoor poolside dining. The Members Lounge is a fireside bar serving fine wine, beer and cocktails.
But, if playing golf on this legendary course is something you've always dreamed about - Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge wants to help you realize that dream. Their Bucket List Package includes accommodations, full breakfast, choice of one round of championship golf or a soothing spa treatment, a trademark umbrella logo pin which is the symbol of the Palmer brand, and a special keepsake gift upon check-in.
If you want to play golf on one of the most prestigious courses in the country, walk the same grounds as some of the best golfers in the history of the game, and enjoy amazing dining and family-friendly amenities, we highly recommend Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida.
