Niagara Falls, Canada
by Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong
More than just a honeymoon staple, the new Niagara Falls experience is a must-see mix of natural wonders, high-tech multi-sensory entertainment, thrill rides, casinos and dinner theaters.
Niagara Falls is one of those places we could return to year after year...and we have. The constant, mesmerizing, and thunderous roar of nearly 750,000 gallons of water per second speeding over the edge and falling over 170 feet to the boulders below is exhilarating and awe inspiring. 12 to 25 million visitors a year agree!
Twenty percent of the world's fresh water flows over these magnificent American and Canadian Falls. The American Falls' Goat Island is the oldest state park in the USA.
Situated just north of Buffalo, New York and just south of Toronto, Canada, Niagara Falls is easily accessible and perfectly situated for travel.
The oldest and best known tourist attraction at Niagara Falls is the Maid of the Mist boat cruise. It has carried passengers into the rapids and spray below the Falls since 1846. Cruise boats operate from boat docks on both sides of the falls and they follow the same route to view both falls regardless of which side you board on. This is a must-do on your Niagara Falls visit.
Canada's Clifton Hill is a great place for an evening stroll. Purchase a FUN PASS and experience some of Clifton Hill's best: Niagara SkyWheel, Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum, Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf , Galaxy Golf, Movieland Wax Museum of Stars, Ghostblasters Dark Ride, FX Ride Theatre, and Midway Tokens for the game arcade.
We found the FUN PASS to be very convenient and we especially enjoyed the view from the 175 foot high Niagara Sky Wheel's enclosed, climate controlled gondolas.
We stayed at the Clifton Hill Comfort Inn and found it to be an excellent choice. The staff was friendly and the hotel was perfectly located with free parking.
Journey Behind the Falls actually takes you behind the mighty Horseshoe Falls through tunnels drilled into the rock.
Niagara's Fury is a stunning 4-D experience where you travel back in time to experience the Creation of the Falls...and snow falls onto you inside the building.
The Whirlpool Aero Car is an antique cable car ride across the gorge and over the Niagara Whirlpool.
The Butterfly Conservatory features over 2,000 colorful tropical butterflies floating freely among lush, exotic blossoms and greenery.
Skylon Tower is the tallest structure overlooking both falls and a great place to take panoramic photos.
Niagara Falls area casinos include Canada's Falls View Casino and Casino Niagara while New York offers Seneca Niagara Casino.
The Oh Canada Eh? Dinner Show has been offering 2 hour shows in their rustic log cabin theater for 17 years. Eat, laugh and sing along.
