Gatorland
Orlando, Florida

There is nowhere in Orlando where you can see more gators

By Steven Skelley & Thomas Routzong

Florida is known for being the home of the alligator and there is nowhere in Orlando where you can see more gators than Gatorland.

Gatorland - the Alligator Capital of the World - is a 110-acre theme park and wildlife preserve, combining Old Florida  charm with exciting exhibits, unique animal encounters, family-friendly entertainment and even a zip line over gators and  crocs! This Florida treasure has been open since 1949 and it is just 15 minutes from the Orlando International Airport, 15  minutes from the world-famous International Drive tourist area, and 15 minutes from Disney, Sea World and Universal Studios.

Once you enter through the giant, open gator's mouth at the entrance, guests find "affordable priced family-fun with  thousands of alligators and crocodiles, a breeding marsh with boardwalk and observation tower, one-of-a-kind reptilian  shows, aviary, petting zoo, children’s wet splash area, educational programs and much, much more."

Have you always wanted to see gator wrestling? Gatorland offers the Gator Wres
tlin’ Show where brave daredevils grab  a 6 to 8 foot alligator for what Gatorland calls "an Old Florida match of man versus beast."

Do you want to see those amazingly powerful gator jaws in action? For more than 20 years, the Gator Jumparoo show  has entertained audiences with dozens of large gators propelling themselves out of the water as they try to grab chicken  meat dangling from a pulley or even fed to them by hand!

Would you like to see some of the rarest reptiles on the planet? The White Alligator Swamp features four of the world’s largest leucistic, white alligators on our planet. The giant, ivory colored reptiles are each 10 to 12 feet long and  weigh more than 800 pounds. Some people believe that their blue eyes command good fortune to those lucky enough to make eye contact.

Do you need a place for your kids to cool off? The Gator Gully Splash Park is free for children within the park. It  features "unusual water sources crafted to resemble some of the parks most popular residents while maintaining the cracker humor visible throughout the 58-year ol’ theme park."

Are you feeling adventurous? The Screamin’ Gator Zip Line will take you
soaring 1,200 feet across gator ponds and  above live gators from multilevel launch pads and breathtaking views from high above the treetops.

If soaring above gators is not adventurous enough for you, Rookie Wrestling
allows you to "step onto the sand at the  world famous Gator Wrestlin' Arena and feel the power of one of the most feared creatures in the world."  That's right!  You get to wrestle a gator! Where else could you do that?

For a more relaxing experience,  the Gatorland Express train carries passengers around the Jungle Crocs and Breeding  Marsh / Bird Rookery areas. The train also stops at the South end of the park close to Pearl's Smokehouse and the Alligator Wrestling Stadium. It is a relaxing ride that is appropriate for the whole family.

Do you want something special to do at night? The Gator Night Shine p
rogram starts at dusk. This is how they describe  it,  "Armed with only a flashlight and a few hot dogs, you bravely make your way along the windingwooden walkways of  Gatorland's Alligator Breeding Marsh. The sounds of the night come alive around you as the rustle of feathers overhead  and the splashing of water nearby signal that you are not alone. Turning your flashlight towards the water, you suddenly  become aware of the hundreds of hungry, glowing, red eyes slowly making their way closer. A fun and educational tour  for kids of all ages, Gatorland's Gator Night Shine Tour is one swamp stompin' adventure you don't want to miss!"

Gatorland offers a Special Admission Rate of $9.99 for guests who are either Florida Residents or Senior Citizens.
